Are you saying 1-10 hp damage is 0 hp damage in this context? If so, it's lousy design that does more damage than good.

I think he meant attack roll. If your attack fails to hit a 10, didn't get the AoE in the right place at all, and therefore you do no damage.

So, if you have +0 attack, you have a 50% chance of completely flubbing the AoE.

If you have a +10 attack, you can't fail (thus removing that critical fail on a natural 1 rule, i suppose).

Sounds like a good rule to me!

She. :) But yeah, that's it exactly. That, and that it mirrors the current saving throw mechanic.

My mistake Ms. Gloombunny.

I happen to agree with you. It's a great mechanic in Saga and I'm hopeful that it will carry over into 4e.

Oh yes of course.

I knew that. :heh:

Another as of yet unmentioned tidbit:

This gives the wizard the chance to stand and cover the bulette’s space with crackling lightning -- the monster’s bulk means it doesn’t have much chance to evade the blast and it doesn’t.

Is this an indication of a size modifier to Reflex Defense perhaps?

Wasn't the bulette in its tunnel? Meaning ref saves in a tight space might not be the best?

Also true. Which means that we might see a more 'simulationist' aspect in this case. My previous DM's were always leery of allowing reflex saves in closed areas. If you took a fireball while in a 10' x 10' room, you pretty well got fried, Evasion or no. I grumbled about it then because I don't like house rules, particularly ones adjudicated on the spot. If it's codified in the actual rules though, I'll be perfectly fine with it. And it'll make them happy too. :)

Depends on what's in the room, really. I mean, you could dive behind a pillar or something, since fireballs spread out from the point of explosion, ne? :)

But then, I never could figure out how you can have a reflex save for half (or none, with Evasion) and not end up on the outside of the blast, from dodging the big boom.
