Designing an LA+0 Goliath

My thoughts so far...

Ability Scores: +2 Str, -2 Dex

Speed: 30 ft

Size: Medium

Humanoid (never DID see the reason why it HAD to be monstrous)

Powerful Build (As is? Perhaps reducing the size bonus from +4 to +2?)

Mountain Movement: Fine

Accilmated: Fine

+2 Sense Motive: Fine

Languages: Fine

Favored Class: Fine

Other suggestions?

That might be fine exactly as is. Certainly, seems on par with a Dwarf *snicker*. If you want it balanced against a core race that's not broken, I'd say rather than create some new "space" between medium and large combat bonuses, keep it at +4 and remove the ability to use large weapons. This would also mean feats and items that let you use larger weapons but don't stack with powerful build now would work for a +0 Goliath. IMO, the larger weapons is the most singularly useful benefit of PB, and definitely the most likely to be advantageous from 1st level and up.

Being a monstrous humanoid also granted the goliath darkvision. Do you want it to retain said ability as a humanoid?

I am thinking that perhaps its powerful build ability could be split up into feats (roughly the equivalent of 3 feats - jotunbrud, monkey grip and a custom feat which negates the attack penalty) which the goliath can take at its leisure. Or maybe have it start out small, then slowly scale as you level.

Alternatively, there is always LA buyoff...:p

Ah, on the Monstrous Humanoid; I didn't think of enlarge person. I was thinking on how charm person and such spells don't affect them either...

I might grant them monkey grip (as a bonus feat) and a +4 to size-based bonuses (doesn't stack with actually gaining size) and call that "powerful build"

Oh, and darkvision is easily added.
