Detect Magic with area spells

When there is an area spell in an area, for example a frobiddance spell, and a spell user casts detect magic, does he understands the specific location of the spell that has been cast or does he just understands that there is a spell in the area?

So when you may want to dispel it, do you dispel a specific location or the whole area?

Considering the spell says you can determine the strength and location of each aura, I'd say someone with detect magic can map out the area of the spell (since it is just over a broader location than most spells).

If you dispel it, you dispell all of it. If the center of an emmination is in an asntimagic field, the whole effect stops; otherwise, only the portion in the antimagic field is stopped.
