Devil's Plow - Leaving Ironcraig

Seems that Phoenix isn't about... off we go!

As the hobgoblin and dwarf argue, another pair of arrows whiz into camp from the mountainside. Once again, Jonath finds himself the target of the missiles. The first bounces off a rock and deflects towards it's target, digging a gash across his forearm. The dwarf wisely moves for cover, bruising his side against an inconviently placed stone as a second projectile flies past him and over the edge of the path, disappearing into the darkness. The dwarf quickly regains his footing next to the still-chained hobgoblin.

Meanwhile, the camp swiftly awakens and takes up arms. Only Ethyann shakes away his fatigue in time to seek his attacker. He gazes up the dark mountain, making out the faint outline of a moving shadow perched above their campsite.

Jonath takes 9 VP damage; 15 VP and 12 WP remain.

Ethyann can't cast light, as the spell has a range of touch, and besides, he doesn't have the time to get up, take a look around, grab his bow, AND cast a spell. He might, however, cast said spell on an object, and then chuck or shoot it in the direction of his assailant.

Ethiann will cast the spell on an arrow, and shoot at the figure he saw.

OCC: this will probably take two rounds: one for casting and one for shooting. When he casts, Ethiann will hide behind a tree to get cover.

Jonath winces in pain as the arrow cuts into his flesh. "Ow! Heironeous smite ye, ye durned creature!" mutters the paladin, who takes his chance to duck completely behind a large outcropping.

"Now back to ye, hobby, what makes ye think that'd me'd do somethin' as stupid as dat?"

Pivoting around on his heel and keeping his body low to the ground, Troll calls back, "The fact that I'm the only other one here who can see whatever's shooting at us. I give you my word that I will not turn my blade on you, nor any other member of this party. Just set me free before that won't make a difference!"

Waiting on Kerrz and Phoenix. Will update tomorrow sometime, with or without them.

I suppose this is a good time to spell out an PC -> NPC policy for combat. If a character hasn't posted for 3+ days since my last update, I'll take temporary control of them. I won't do anything that will kill them, but I don't promise to play them to their best potential. The most likely course of action for an NPC'd character is to keep doing what they did previously, or attacking the nearest enemy with their primary weapon. Just FYI.

OOC: Oh. Sorry. You see... you hadn't posted anything about the rest of us seeing attackers. And you specifically said that we hadn't "shaken off the fatigue" yet... so I assumed we were busy doing that until you posted something different.

Tobe glances around with his bow strung, looking for a target, ready to let an arrow fly at the slightest glimpse of an enemy.

During his survey he looks around to check on the Duke's safety and the general state of the campsite.

Sorry about the ambigiousness. While you haven't seen the attackers, you did hear your paladin yelling about them. For the sake of getting things moving, I decided you guys can get on your feet in a round if your life is on the line. Anyway, I've come to the realization that, having ignored this thread (or perhaps the boards altogether) for over a month, Phoenix can safely be considered AWOL.

*evil cackle*

One more thing: only Troll and Jonath are armored.

As Tobe puts an arrow to his bowstring, he sees the Duke jumping up and seizing the axe beside his bedroll, and hastily fitting his helm onto his head. He steps away from the outcropping and looks up into the mountain with the archer.

The pair spy a shadowy figure in the hill, and Tobe sends a shaft flying towards it. The figure moves swiftly disappears among the rocks, re-emerging for a moment to return fire. The arrow goes wide, passing a few feet above Ethiann's head.

Ethiann, despite the incoming fire, channels his power into the shaft, and yellow-tinted light bursts forth. Shot into the darkness, it would illuminate the attacker-but currently, it serves only to light the camp.

Troll and Jonath continue to argue behind the cover of a boulder, wasting precious seconds as their comrades dodge arrows.
