First Post
I leave work and find I have my very first thread closure - ever! I feel so dirty. Please understand - no illegality to see here.

Let me try to put this into perspective - For example - I buy D2 and LoD expansion on Ebay. If the buyer agrees, I can ask him to simply email me the CD-Keys and dispose of the actual cd's. They are legally mine, I can destroy them if I wish and I am left with the CD-Key. Fairly common practice. Likewise, somebody could just give me CD-Keys, sans CD.

I have several instances of the game already on different computers. I have access to more computers and I don't need any more cd's. I can scan/upload images of several original sets of CDs if somebody still feels iffy.

And I'm flexible! I officially alter my request - Please drive to the post office and mail the D2 and LoD expansion CDs & CD-keys to me. If necessary, I will Paypal the funds to purchase and pay S&H. Upon receipt, I will dispose of the CDs and retain the key.

Those willing to support the habit, please email me at:

Thanks!

Probably against the EULA, but seems to fulfill the spirit of the agreement and avoid any taint of piracy. But...

This is the part that confuses me. IIRC, to play D2 or LOD, the cd has to be in the drive. If you're running multiple installs without the cd, you've definitely violated the EULA. Even if you don't have to have the cd physically in the drive, you can legally only have one computer running the program for every legal copy of the program you own at any one time. If you have that many legal copies, you should already have that many cd-keys. The only reason I can conceive of for wanting more cd-keys is to run more simultaneous sessions than you have legal copies, and that would qualify as pirating the program. Hence, the appearance of piracy in asking only for the cd-keys.

Note, I'm not accusing you of anything wrong - I'm just noting that the request doesn't pass the "smell test".

Yep, that's the way to go with this. Of course, you'd probably have better luck on eBay than on a message board.

The EULA is one cd per computer. Each cd comes with it's own nifty little CD-Key. CD's are required to play unless you have copied or hacked the game. I agree, this smells real bad. *cough - warez*

Right, I'm pretty sure Blizzard intended people to use a CD key with the CDs it originated from... Also, if you get the CDs + the CD key it's just as easy to use the correct CDs than not do so, so why wouldn't you just do that?

Yup, this isn't the sort of request we're comfortable having here. Please ask for this sort of thing somewhere other than EN World.

Many thanks - and now you have your second thread closing. :)
