While I don't think anyone wants to bring back nephilim as the focus of the franchise again,

I liked the concept of the Nephilim.

I liked the Nephilim concept.
Yeah I don't think the fundamental concept was bad.

I think it was just really unfortunate that they chose to do it in the incredibly badly-written mess that was Diablo 3's plot, where your character just walked face first into plot-rakes repeatedly, without ever stopping to look where they were going or learning that there might be rakes on the ground.

The whole game was like, decent lore, terrible writing. And gamers tend to be particularly vituperative to ideas that were alongside bad writing, no matter how good those ideas might be independently.

Yeah, the nephilim idea wasn't a bad one, but it was combined with stripping out all agency for Sanctuary's mortal residents. I had honestly been expecting they'd bring the concept back in D4 with a villainous nephilim as one of the major villains, as Diablo II did with the original game's protagonist.

Loved Diablo 1 and 2. Especially 1 for is D&D-ness.

D3 was really lacking IMO. To often I had been told "Just beat it 3-4 times (or whatever) then it gets really good!"
It was better after they released the expansion, before then I'd only played through the story of the base game then I quit because I didn't find the gameplay very fun.

Yeah same.

Though Ive never understood that style of gameplay aside from bragging rights. I have an ultra purple sword got it on my 50th play through! Then again I don't care about Achievements/Trophies/whatever either. Im just here for the story. To each their own.

The expansion was great, both from the standpoint of fixing the mechanics and the lore. There was a lot of Lilith chatter in the expansion that seemed to point to a second D3 expansion. Happily, we got to see her in D4 at least.

Watching the d4 trailer where she forms from the blood of those slain was pretty awesome, absolutely horrifying. One of the side quest chains follows the path of Elias and the others in the clip as he goes to summon her. I think the side quests are great for snippets of lore, though I don't often run through them again.

Given that it's apparently impossible to truly kill Diablo, I'm hoping Lilith returns in an upcoming expansion or sequel and we get more of her story. She certainly seemed like a great frenemy to the people of Sanctuary and it seems like a waste to just have her be a big speedbump on the way to the Prime Evils (again).
