I like to take it all the way and use a box. This is basically a tray that is also used to organize your whole playing position. Its great. Below is an action photo.

Any chance of some close up shots?

Did you build it or purchase it?
I can certainly make one, but it would be faster to buy.

Nothing special to build it. I think a small backgammon board is great. Mine is a strange bar game called "Shut the Box". Basically its a rolling tray with a lid that you can keep your character sheet and dice and minis and cards in, and even clip them to the lid etc during play.

I currently use a wooden box that opens flat. I lined the inside with adhesive felt. So, my dice rest on one side and roll on the other.

That system took over the octagon which was just too big to carry with dice that still had to be gotten out of a bag.

But, either is preferable to rolling on untrue surfaces--that cost me dearly once in a game.

I bought a small box from a computer store for a buck, I think it was originally used to store some small computer thing. It snaps closed, and it has its own smaller compartment (probably for a cable) which I use now to HOLD the dice that aren't being rolled, while the larger compartment holds the dice that ARE to be rolled. I throw the subject dice into the larger space, close the lid and then shake the box, open the lid and read the results.
