I suppose I could concede a single d20 used by the DM to resolve everything (which could just be a deck of cards), or the bidding system from something like bid-it, http://www.geocities.com/rpg_pro/bidit/system.html or Active Exploits, http://www.pigames.net/ae.php. For damage, I could use the mutants & mastermind method of injury, instead of Hit Points.

Hmmm, I'm starting to think it could be done!

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp It would indeed be strange to play D&D (or just about any RPG except for those specially-designed diceless RPG's) without paper (for character sheets) and dice.

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp However, I do agree that miniatures and grids aren't absolutely necessary. I've been roleplaying (both as a GM and as a player) for years and have never used miniatures and grids... and thus far everything has turned out fine!

I'm not saying NO paper is involved at any point...just that an ongoing campaign that uses paper and dice could have a single session or three without such things, using just memory and an alternate system for dice while on a road trip or camping or some such. Either than, or play a one-shot where you just have the standard scores as in the PHB, and memorize where your strong and weak points are.

I think it could be done...question is, has anyone done it before on here, and was it sucessful?

Mmmmm…. Pretty dice, pretty minis. The fun of having a transparency showing the dimensions of an area-effect spell and watching all everyone becoming entangled! No I refuse to let you take this away from me.
