Dieties and Demigods!

it would be nice to see all those fellers in the book, but that would at least double the size of what we already know is going to be in there... but maybe with a little luck at least some of them will be in there. :)

Hi all! :)

Hello Scott mate! :)

Unfortunately Boz-man, the aforementioned beings won't be in the new DDG. Not sure what WotC has planned for them (well, not entirely anyway), but DDG isn't part of the "master plan" :)

Do you know they won't be in the book or are you making an educated guess!?

What we do know is that the Egyptian; Greek; Greyhawk and Norse Pantheons will be included; totalling slightly over 70 gods. Each deity is detailed in 3 column format.

So if we assume:

16 Egyptian Gods (as in 1st Ed D&Dg)
17 Greek Gods (as in 1st Ed D&Dg)
19 Greyhawk Gods (as in the PHB)
21 Norse Gods (as in 1st Ed D&Dg)

Total 73 (about 110 pages)

Lets assume a further 8 pages per Pantheon (Monsters, Spells, Artifacts) and an additional 8 for Contents/Index/Credits/Introduction etc.

Total 150 pages so far.

This leaves (approx.) 74 pages to detail the Divinity Rules - which even though they could have upwards of 100 Salient Divine Abilities certainly won't take even half that figure.

Even if we assume 36 pages are used herein; that still leaves us with 38 pages to play with. Which, since we know they don't specifically regard Demon Princes as Deities (and therefore they may not be included in the Press Release total of 'over 70 deities') they won't have to include the first column of text or Avatar details, so presumably they could detail 38 in single page format!?

Personally, I think not detailing the Demon Princes et al. within Deities & Demigods has both good and bad implications.

The good; that they will no doubt command their own book at some later date. If detailed in D&Dg they won't be able to fit everybodies favourites in!

The bad; that many people were looking forward to these beings and that if indeed they are to be detailed in a future product - such work is a long way away (since it hasn't been mentioned) - unless of course they plan on detailing them in the Epic Level Handbook!? Which would be quite a surprise! :D

In fact the more I think about it the more this sounds like a shrewd idea! ;)

Hi Colonel Hardisson mate! :)

Ah, so it's Greyhawk, Greek, Norse, and Egyptian pantheons. I'm a bit disappointed that they didn't try to cover all the pantheons from the 1e version, but perhaps with the guidelines I assume will be in this edition we can convert the missing pantheons to 3e.

Speaking with Ed Stark (WotC) over on the Wizards boards he didn't rule out letting others detail various Pantheons* (when D&Dg becomes SRD) or possibly that we would see a D&Dg II sometime in the future.

*Of course I wouldn't have picked up on that at all! ;)

Celtic Pantheon anyone!? ;)

ye got a point there krusty, it says 4 pantheons and over 70 GODS, but the beings in question are neither gods, nor part of a pantheon. ;)

well....

Upper Krust....haven't seen you on a board since i departed for springbreak after that last D+D thread.

And again i must state that i think your aggressive speculation fails to satisfy my fetish with rational extrapolation.....but hey, who reads a BBoard for grounded analysis? :)

There's also a chance that they could appear in Monster Manual II. After all, the demon princes and dukes of hell were orginally in the 1e Monster Manuals, plus MM2 is supposed to have a focus on higher CR creatures.

Hi guys! :)

Well it would appear either:

#1 They are detailed in Deities & Demigods.
#2 They are detailed in the Epic Level Handbook.
#3 They are detailed in Monster Manual II.
#4 They are detailed in some book we are not yet aware of.
#5 They are spread throughout any of the above.
#6 They are not going to be detailed.

Scott seems to know something, so hopefully he can enlighten us a bit later!?

I think i heard somewhere there would be a bunch of guidelines for creating new gods and designing your own pantheons. I hope this true, it one of the mian reasons i have for being interested in the book.

Think of me as a Detective using all the facts currently at his disposal to generate the most plausible theories...how would you describe yourself in this manner; the Internal Affairs Agent dogging my every step perhaps? :D

Go to the WotC site and look at the old Monster Manual art gallery ( http://www.wizards.com/dnd/article.asp?x=dnd/ag/ag20010316d ). You'll note that they created art for Lolth & Dispater.

So, it looks like the intent was originally to have some of the Demon Princes & Arch-Devils in the MM. Presumbably they got cut for either space reasons, or for a concept reason. Still, having them in the MM2 certainly seems like something they might do.
