What about a limited spontaneous casting in exchange for Scribe Scroll?
Something like: The wizard can choose at first level a number of spells equal to his intelligence bonus as his 'favored spells'. He gets another 'favored spell' each time he reaches a new spell level.
When he prepares his spells he can leave a number of spell slots equal to his intelligence bonus open. With this spell slots he can power any one of his 'favored spells' of the appropriate level.
This would give the wizard a bit of his versatility back.
