Diletant power for a Warlock?

I'd go with a melee attack, or a close power.

Warlocks have crap for range, mostly 5, a few 10's. Therefore almost any monster will be able to get you in melee if you were close enough to trouble it's day.

Warlocks also have crap that they can do in close combat. You get one close power before epic.

It's a rather glaring weakpoint, and one that dilettante can slap a handy patch on.

I think it really depends on what the second strongest stat that he has built. If its Intelligence then go the Wizard path. Dexterity I would go down the Rogue Path. Since no other powers use Constitution, I would focus on the second stat. My half-elf warlock picked up Scorching Burst as his dilettante, since the power can only be used once per encounter. If I had optimized on the Dexterity side, I would have either taken Deft Strike or Sly Flourish and armed myself with either a dagger or hand crossbow. If you're gonna go down the Dex side, I would definitely multi-class into Rogue with the multi-class feat so that you can pick up Sneak Attack damage.
