Dire Boars loose in Alabama

I find it a little disturbing that a ten-year old has a .50 calibur handgun...

If I saw an animal like that, I'd let it live. It would be tragic if a squishy little animal like me killed an animal successful enough to grow that big.

"It feels really good," Jamison said in a telephone interview with The Associated Press. "It's a good accomplishment. I probably won't ever kill anything else that big."

He said he shot the huge animal eight times with a .50-caliber revolver and chased it for three hours through hilly woods before finishing it off with a point-blank shot.

Am I the only one that finds the kids enthusiasm a little... disturbing? I'm not trying to imply that he is or will become a danger to anybody, in fact I'm sure he'll grow up and continue being an avid and responsible hunter, but all the same... That attitude is just plain disturbing.

This from a guy that calls himself 'Jacob the Impaler'? You know the great thing about a kid whose killed a 1000lb boar with only a handgun? He doesn't have an violent empowerment fantasies about killing safe squishy helpless things. Think about it.

Hmmm... I suppose only you can know where you properly fit in the food web. The dolphins would approve of your self awareness.

Is this for real though? The picture I saw of it looks really fake. It looks like it's been photoshoped. The head is in a position where the mouth is wide open, but why would the mouth of a dead pig be wide open? The bottom of the pig looks very sharp, as if it was pasted into the picture. And the top of the big looks blurry, the effect you get when you increase the size of an image.

I've only seen the one picture, so maybe there's more pics that prove that it's real. But I mean geez, the pig is bigger than a car and larger than a hippopotamus....and it's a pig! How does something that big get around in the woods and why would it take the kid 3 hours to track it down? Surely it doesn't have a speed higher than 10 ft a round.

He did say at the end of the article that he "preferred "hunting pheasants to monster pigs."

I'm just sayin'.

Bah, you're save unless you're 6'6" or more. He likes to hunt down the big ones.

I happen to know the DM, and He has this house rule in which injured or frightened monsters have to pass a 'morale check' our else they do things which don't actually maximize thier challenge - like for example run away rather than fight. It really buries the CR of most challenges, but it's His thing.

Also, He has this house rule called 'physics'. It doesn't seem to have caught on much. Most DM's I know complain that it involves too much math.

More unnecessary houserules. They're meant to fight to the death, not escape with the treasure!! :p

What? No XP unless you kill it with a spear. (Double if you kill it with a knife, though.)

There actually are people that hunt boars with throwing knives. I know of one boar taken down in Florida with a single throw that weighed in at 175 pounds...
