Okay. We have Bob the monk. Bob normally has 3 unarmed attacks at +10/+7/+4

IF Bob Flurries his attacks look like this: +8/+8/+5/+2

If Bob uses Fists of Lightning His attacks look like this: +5/+5/+5/+2/-1

So, against targets with a low AC Bob would use Fists of Lightning so he can hopefully hit the target many, many times.

Ok, so, again, why Lightning Fists? Why not just Flurry?

If you've got an ultra-high AC opponent to hit, use a normal attack.

If you've got a middling-high AC opponent to hit, use Flurry. One extra attack, -2 on your rolls.

If you've got a low AC opponent to hit, use Lightning Fists. Two extra attacks, -5 on your rolls.

Makes sense to me... it's like saying "Why Power Attack?" You're sacrificing accuracy for the chance of more damage, in both cases.

No, I'm just not understanding.

If you can Flurry for just -2, which gives you more attacks, WHY would you Lightning fist? It gives you the same, if not less, then your flurry, right?

Flurry gives you one more attack than normal. Lightning Fist gives you two more attacks than normal.

As I understand my basic maths, two is generally not considered "the same, if not less" than one.

Yes, I inadvertantly skipped Crothian's post, having went straight to the bottom, and missed his explination. I tried to correct myself in the editor, but then the boards whent funky on me.

It adds to your *normal* unarmed attacks. I was confused there, a second. :)

Two equals one, for large values of one.

I think a full round action should still take a full round action and not allow off hand attacks.

Then you would be hindering any high level Two-Weapon fighter... If a Ranger, for example, has a BAB of +6/+1 and wants to use his off-hand attack as well, then by your explanation here he would not be able to get it because he needs to use a full round action to get both attacks from his primary (+6/+1).

You've misunderstood his meaning.

He meant any special feat or such that in and of itself requires a full attack action - Circle Kick, Lightning Fists, Dirty Fighting, Whirlwind Attack, etc - should preclude off-hand attacks.

A standard iterative attack does, of course, allow off-hand attacks. In fact, a full attack action is the only way to get off-hand attacks.

But Whirlwind Attack plus off-hand attacks seems weird.
