Disappointment in thinning Dragon content

I posted the same thought in the "content calendar" thread. It looks lighter and lighter to me. Also, I agree that they are NOT branching out with authors at all. I love Schwalb's work, but there must be other people submitting ideas.

If it weren't for the CB and MB, I'd probably unsubscribe. And, that would be the first time in decades I didn't either subscribe or buy 80% of the magazines.

I'm not impressed, even a little.

How does Greenwood write articles about NPCs, and there are no stats? Where are the articles every month on either a deity, demon, or fey?

I had to let my sub lapse due to moving costs at the time, but haven't been too interested lately in renewing. Not to beat a dead donkey-horse, but i still want the game table.

In the mean time, i'm nearly done with my own browser based monster maker tool (nifty formatted output  ), then i'll prolly slap together a quick encounter builder, then go back to a character builder, and after that if they haven't done something, i'll be making myself a 4e vtt (maptools and the others are nice, but i don't want to have to shoe horn in 4e stuff) as some sort of java applet.

A bored programmer will often come up with their own tools without sufficient distraction...

Dungeon pages avg = 105.96

Riley They also moved I believe 2 columns from Dungeon over to Dragon when they refocused the 2 magazines.

That's an excellent breakdown. Thanks. But it seems, unlike the print version, that was x amount of pages pretty much every month, that it varies tremendously. While I can understand the value of online meaning it doesn't have to, since they do little that actually makes use of online elements anyway... perhaps they should stick to an actual page count and run with it? Pad it out with full scale maps of mystery if nothing else.

I am very bothered by the absence of supporting books for divine characters. A divine power 2 adding some more options for Runepriests and a primal power 2 adding more options for the seeker would be perfect.

But alas.

I sadly have to agree with the overall feelings of dissatisfaction with the electronic magazines. I'm particularly discouraged by the lack of new or varied talent contributing. I can't believe every pitch was unworkable, and while I do appreciate all the work going into Essentials and the future books (I plan on making quite a few purchases), the magazines do feel like an afterthought.

I guess it would be unimaginable to think they'd ever devote a paid staff to the magazines again. Maybe commissioning some proven designers and, hell, taking a few chances on some new blood. Something to energize things. Give us a 300 page issue in October and put some fun Halloween stuff in!

On the plus side, the art is really top notch. I find many of the covers and interior work more deserving of hardcovers than what they use on half their in-store products.
