Discern Location spell and its uses

Our group is currently looking for a missing party member, who may or may not be dead. We're looking to hire a mage to cast Discern Location, but we're unsure it will work if she has perished. She also carries a large portion of the group loot, and we're concerned that she may have absconded with it.

If she's dead, will the Discern Location spell still be able to find her body? Or would her corpse now be considered an object?

Read the spell. To discern an object you have to have touched it. Hiring someone to cast Discern Location for you is usually quite useless. Unless this mage has touched the body or something else he can Discern for you'd better hope the subject is alive...

You guys don't have a high level cleric in your midst? It'd probably be easier to hire a cleric to cast a Commune spell to find out if <insert character's name here> still lives or not. And if said person is nearby or not. Depending on the cleric's level, you could ask quite a few questions as to where this person is. HOWEVER, it's only limited to yes/no answers, so be careful!
