Discussion - General Discussion Thread '08

Having more free time than good sense, Trouvere and I have managed to talk each other into volunteering to help out as character judges. So, uh, how do we go about doing that? I seem to remember that when Boddynock came on, he did so on a trial basis for a while.

There were deep and arcane rumblings offstage for a time  and then B4cchus and I were sent a test character to 'approve'. We were first made assistant character judges and then, after proving our fabulous worth, and with due consideration from the other judges, were made full judges.

As an assistant character judge my approval, linked with a substantive judge's approval, was enough to ratify a character.

I, for one, would welcome such a glittering addition to the ranks of the character judges. :D

(I've seen Trouvere finesse, finagle and [insert some other appropriate f-word here] enough characters to be confident that he'll be right up there with the most dedicated min-maxers on ENWorld. ;))

My thanks to you guys for making the offer. What do the other judges think?

Excuse me while I just go offstage and initiate some appropriate rumblings.

I agree. We're all way behind in character approvals.

BTW, DMs: for the time being, don't worry about withholding XP from characters who haven't been approved at their current level. Chances are that it isn't the player that's holding things up, and we've generally had no trouble waiving that rule when the approval is in the works. The no-XP rule exists to ensure that players actually do resubmit their characters. If you've got players who have resubmitted their characters but haven't yet gotten approval, we don't want to penalize them for the judges being behind schedule.

Good point, orsal! :)

Taking a break.

As some of you might have noticed, I haven't been around a lot as either a player, DM or judge lately.
The fact is that my time seems to get consumed by many things and there aren't any leftovers to spend on LEW.
As much as I'd hate to admid it, I simply can't find the time for LEW.
I don't see much relief before the end of the year so I have decided to step down from LEW for at least the remainder of the year.
I really hope that the sky will have cleared by then and I can continue participating in this fantasic community.
Until then I bid you all good luck and great games!

p.s. I'll contact my respective players and DM's seperately.

Regards,
B4cchus.

Good luck, B4cchus.

I'm currently digging in my heels and refusing to acknowledge that I've got to a similar point. I think your choice is the wiser one (as well as the more courageous).

Good luck with all the great things which real life offers ... and I hope to see you again in the new year!

'Nock

Thanks 'Nock!
I know the feeling. I've been postponing this decision for too long already and really should have acknowledged it some time ago instead of leaving everybody in limbo (especially regarding my DM'ing and judging). I can only say: try to be honest to yourself and don't be afraid to admid that you can't keep up the time investure.
With the two new character judges life should get a bit easier on that front! (Kudo's to Trouvere and Covaithe!)

Luckily most of the things that are consuming my time right now are both temporary and will lead to positive things (hopefully a new house, amongst others).

I'll keep in touch!

Yeah, good luck, B4cchus. I know the feeling, myself, right down to the "should have made the decision earlier" thing.

Thanks to Trouvere and Covaithe for volunteering! :)

Trouvere and Covaithe volunteering definetly qualifies as an unmitigated good in my book, well done for stepping up guys.

Just so everyone knows, I suspect most already do, I started a recruitment thread for my approved End's Meat adventure on the Talking the Talk forum. I've made it very clear that expected criteria for application are long term involvement in not only the game, but Living Enworld as a whole so I think any recruits will be as viable as those who join up through the more typical avenues.

I was also wondering if any one would knows who the current mayor of Orussus is, and if not whether I could submit a suggestion - for my own nefarious ends.
