Flavor is a part of it, and an important part. It does not have to be "only" flavor though. As Dexerion said, it can also act as a potential source of income, and for craft-based jobs, additional Craft points. Maybe we could go a bit further, even. An Orussus Council Member would surely benefit some sort of recognition.
And I bet that (some) jobs can be a rather nice source of adventure ideas. Council Member just screams for political backstabbing or something (from character's part or against him). But I think that if you give too much perks for a job, the job should probably have some drawbacks too (time-consuming for example), unless of course there are some requirements to balance it out.

But flavor, yes. I like to image of a character intoducing himself as a Council Member of Orussus, that ought to turn some heads (unless, of course, there's like 1000 council members)... :)

Just a quick question to flesh out my character a bit. The concept has him growing up in Orussus, but then being adopted by a ranger who is a border guard. The primary question being, where is the nearest hostile border to Orussus that would employ rangers? I'm mostly looking for a name at the moment, but any details about the area would be helpfull.

There is a group of rangers called the Roadwardens who keep the roads around Orussus safe. They do take orphans into their ranks and turn them into skillful rangers.

At least, that's the closest group I've seen with that like in my time here.

Wow, that is perfect, only a very slight modification to my background. Also, if any DMs are interested, I declared the (now Roadwarden) that took me in as public, so if you want to use him as an adventure hook to torture me with, go ahead. (it's a masochistic service I usually provide to my DM).

Huh... usually in my games it's a good idea to leave some form of hooks in there so I can bail you out or give you a hand with a particularly difficult problem. Then again, I use Unearthed Arcanna's reputation and contacts rules, which work great for those purposes.

Maybe it would be a good Idea to start an Official Non-Player-Character Thread with relevant NPCs in and around Orussus that have come up in adventures somewhere and would suit themselves to be reused by other DMs (City Officials, Notable Guards, influental inhabitants of Orussus, etc..) in order to increas the verisimilitude of the setting.

Of course, one had to keep it slim and not go overboard as to make searching the thread tiresome and useless for a DM, or to limit a DMs creativity with too much of a predetermined cast , but a few key players that appear time and again might be nice.. don't you think?

Just to let you know, the links to the individual gods in the pantheon thread seem to have something wrong with them. Sent me to a page that said, "No Post specified. If you followed a valid link, please notify the webmaster"

And I have a question about a character concept. I would like to make a character whose goal is to become a golem crafter.
1. Will my character gnerally be able to take homunculi and golems with him on adventures?
2. Will someone who buys golems from him be able to do the same?
3. What would my chances be of introducing OGC or original golems to the game? I know about the proposal system etc, I'm just curious about the judges reaction to proposals for new constructs.
