I was thinking the same thing for my crafter (buying CP off of fighters and such who don't use them.) When I start up on that, though the limiting factor at the moment is money. (one abortive adventure, now starting one that is eating up all my remaining money! Though there is promise of muchas loot at the end.) Remember to start doing it immediately though, once you're out of CP your options will dwindle. I'm thinking of issuing a proposal that ties craft points to xp instead of level, that way you could have a character who reaches a certain point and slows down with levelling, but can keep crafting by adventuring every once in a while and using the xp and cp to craft new items, I know I'd love to do that with my wizard character. (IIRC it would be 1 cp for every 10 xp you recieve.)
You would keep levelling because the cp would limit the amount of xp you spent on crafting (unless you started using spells with xp component). Actually with the craft point system as it is, you can only use 8% of your xp for crafting total (which assumes you always have someone else contribute 1/2 of the cp for every item you make!) I arrived at that by this. Out of every 100xp you get, you get 10 cp. With 10cp and 4xp (and 50gp), you can make an item with a market price of 100gp. Therefore, out of every 100xp, you can spend 4 of it on crafting (but you can double that by having someone else contribute half the cp for the item).
Oops, I forgot the feats, which now that I look at it, they contribute even more than I had thought. Wow, that's a lot of crafting you can do. 6,000gp of scrolls for a lvl 1 character. Of course at that point you've spent a quarter of a level worth of xp on items. More likely the cp from scribe scroll will tide you over until you get craft misc item or one of the lvl 5 crafting feats. Any of those would double the amount of crafting you could do. If it ever becomes an issue I might try to get talented crafter changed, it should be at least 500cp/level instead of a flat 500cp. Why wouldn't you just get another crafting feat instead?
