Dislike 4E? You can write off 5E

Keep this in mind - Every new edition of D&D has been written by new designers. That in and of itself pretty much negates anything James Wyatt has to say on 5e since its doublful he will be involved with its design.

So there's hope that 5e will be all about "...traipsing off through fairy rings and interacting with the little people." and not about "...slaying horrible monsters"? ;)

I am expecting 5e to be completely digital, with the exception of some mechanism of cards and/or card collecting. I think that releasing 5e in book form is unlikely. WOTC will most likely develop a game table by then and everything will be done digitally.

I am posting this here only so I can come back in 6 years or so and tell my friends "I told you so."

And you will ignore it when it doesn't come true. What is that phenomena called again? All I can think of is "Selection Bias" which I think is only tangentially related.

Try not to lose your sense of humour - he was making a joke and you end up casting aspersions at him? Bad show.

Seems a fair point to me, his intentions are directly in his post joking or no. Don't mean any insult. That said, I wouldn't have a problem with 5E being mostly digital personally, but I don't think that would help the hobby and there really isn't any reason that I can see that WotC would want to stop printing, given the precedence otherwise.

If they already didn't have such a large groundwork laid I'd find it much more likely that they would drop the electronic tools. But now, I think the dual model is perfect. I can easily prepare missions with the electronic tools and easily look up rules and fluff with the print copies at the table.

I did and I still own them. They're full of very good and useful fluff. I thought and still think they were an excellent value for the price. Very little to no crunch. I use them from time to time in my one-shot Savage Worlds games.

Seriously, have you read them?

Roomate at the time bought them. Later sold them over Ebay. He later got into 4e, but it was in spite of those books, not because of them.

Actually when I say something I stand by it. You really have no evidence that I would use selection bias.

I have been correct in my predictions often. I have been wrong more often. When I am correct it is nice, when I am wrong I take responsibility.

Alright, but actually I do have evidence, it's right there in your post: "I am posting this here only so I can come back in 6 years or so and tell my friends "I told you so."" Emphasis mine. As in, that's the 'only' reason you are posting it, and you won't come back if you are wrong; unless we have different meanings of the word 'only.' Clearly I took things more literally than you intended, but unfortunately that's all I have to go off of. Either way, I don't mean insult. I certainly use selective memory, if most of the time unconsciously.

That out of the way, I'm glad you take responsibility. See you in a few? years when 5E comes out, if it still has printed books you owe me a cookie. Otherwise, the cookie is yours my friend.
