DIY GMs?

Always have been. My own stuff comes off much better for me than when I'm using published material.

Currently? Yes, I pretty much am. Unfortunately, I don't have the time I used to. Before kids, I found it easier to roll my own. With 1 kid it was still okay. The second kid made it break even. The third kid made me think I had to cut some time. Now, I'm on several boards/committees for church and my daughter's school -- I'm only continuing my homebrew because the story arc I started a couple years ago is something of an opus for the 25 year old setting before I retire it. With kid #4 due in 9 weeks, I may have to switch entirely to adventure paths and forego the setting closure.

I'm a compulsive DIY GM, despite being something of a rabid collector of D&D books. I manage occasionally to use outside material (current campaign is using Ptolus as a setting) if I'm doing something new with it (in this case, I've got my own RPG system that I'm developing piece by piece).

System - is still vaguely recognizable as 1e but just about everything has been at least mildly tweaked, if not redesigned from the ground up...work still in progress.

Worlds - so far one all homebrew, one partly homebrew/partly FR, and the next one (development in progress) will be all homebrew. Calendars, astronomy (e.g. moons), etc. all mine.

Cultures and Pantheons - mix and match of ideas stolen from everywhere, and some homebrew; human cultures at least vaguely resemble a mish-mash of real-world history e.g. Norse, Greek, Celtic, etc.

Maps - all mine.

Modules/adventures - some are my own, some are modified from canned modules, some are canned modules run pretty much stock.

So all in all I'd call myself a DIY DM.

I homebrew setting and adventures, only using published rules.

I've made all my own adventures since the 1980s.

In the past I've used published settings but the last couple of "big" campaigns I've run have been in homebrew settings. I've been considering a published setting for my next game because of time constraints and I've been feeling a bit guilty about it, to tell the truth. I'm not quite sure why, but that is the case.

Less so than I was ten years ago, but I still prefer my own brand of cool to mass market cool when/if I have the time to cobble stuff together. Take my vs. Elves setting for vs. Monsters -- there's nothing quite like it on the market, so I had to do it myself (that other people have enjoyed it is merely a pleasant bonus).

For the purposes of this poll there is no middle ground. You either use more self created material than published material or you don't. If it's a tie you'd probly fit in the "no" category.

Okay, no it is. I use a lot of stuff, but I make up a lot of stuff, too.
