I took the 'My Money' choice without looking at the spoiler. (I looked at the spoiler afte I voted)

As a player, I would pick 'My Money' over 'My Life' 99.9% of the time. The reason for this is because a) Money, loot, items, things of value are fairly easy to come by in D&D Land ™. b) On a more metagame/practicle note, character creation takes a long time, and I don't want to do it unless I really have to. Finally c) In D&D Land ™, I can do whatever I want. In the case of what the spoiler discribes, it means I can give my money to the goblin and giants now, and go kill them later to take back not only my money, but also the loot they extracted from others.

The only reason I would make a character choose ' My Life' is if the character was a more lawful character, bound to do so. A Paladin protecting a preist/nobleman from an assassin, a wizard defending my tower, a rogue defending my family.. etc.

I, too, said "money", before reading the spoiler.

But most of my PCs would probably go for the "...and then we'll seek vengeance later" routine, too.

I'd disagree about the "the rogue will not be able to sneak attack". Once the combatants spend 6 seconds doing nothing but chatting (or exchanging bags of money, or whatever), combat is over, and the rules about being attacked before your initiative in the first round take over. The rogue would need to win init, but that's a pretty decent possiblity.

In any case - most PC's I know would flee or fight.

And if the rest of the party were going to surrender the treasure, and the DM somehow made it such that we COULDN'T follow and get our revenge, I'd consider the session a really crappy one. Frankly I don't play D&D just to have my wallet taken, and no chance of recourse given.

Of course - the above also depends on the GM we have. There's a lot of GM's who I wouldn't trust enough to hand over the cash, because you know that they'll stiff you on it, and you'd have more fun just fighting the guys for the hell of it. Then there are good GM's that you can trust to make this an important event that improves the game, or in itself forms the basis of a campaign.
