DM Buddy: Help Wanted

Eternalknight

First Post
Due to a number of people saying they are unsure how to use DM Buddy or what it is useful for, I have started this thread in the hopes that some of you might offer suggestions/critiques/help. What would you like to see DM Buddy able to do? What would you do to improve it? What do you currently like/dislike about it?

I know.. the traffic here is a bit slow[\B]. Most people are interested in PCGEN/RPM/MT threads. I have the same slow-traffic-post problem with the thread i started about NPCEQ 2.0

Sorry haven't had a chance to play with it yet.. RL keeps interfering. ;p

But I did at least get it downloaded! :D

I promise I'll look at it soon (maybe by the weekend and get back to you on it. :)

EternalKnight can you post some things that you use DM Buddy for? So far, I personally see no use for it(that doesn't mean other people do and the same can be said for things I use).

Garlig, on the "What applications do you use" thread I posted a response to the same request you made here. Here it is again (If you stil have any questions, contact me off board, either by email or instant message (I use AIM, ICQ and MSN... AIM and ICQ are in my profile, MSN is eternalknight@msn.com)

The Combat Tracker is designed to ... umm.. track combat. The top part (Initiative) is my favourite part. By typing in the charcters and monsters names, and their initiaive, then highlighting them all and hitting the 'reverse order' command button (it is the Z on top of the A) it shows you in order who's turn is when. If you have the characters and monsters names and hit points typed into the appropriate sperate areas (ie just below the initiative part) then it brings up their Hit points too. Now, the numbers next to the HP column are meant to be for combat rounds. Once some one has had a turn that round, just enter down to the next combatant. If some one takes damage in a round, type a number into the corrosponding round and, voila! their hp goes down.

The characters part, well the Play and Level bit may be a bit confusing. Type in a 0 if the character isn't present, a 1 if they are. Type their level into the level column. Now have a look down a bit, and what you are looking for is effective party level. This is based off a chart in Dungeon. It shows you what the effective party level is of your group.

The Experience section is handy too. When the party defeats a monster, flick over to the Extra Tracking page. The bit you are looking for is on the left hand side. Find the monsters CR and type in how many of then the group defeated. Now go back to the Combat Tracker. You will see that the total XP column has changed, as will have the Overall XP coulmn. An easy way to work out XP for the group. This figure is based on the effective party level. The iNdv. XP is in case you want to reward a single character with XP for doing something clever, etc. Just type in a number and it will add the XP.

The other worksheets are just for reference, thus we call them Reference sheets. I personaly own all of the official WotC books (exception: Masters of the Wild) and hate having to flick through them to find what I am after. So, I made the reference sheets. They are basically just an index. I find them quite time saving myself.

At one point I did think about adding descriptions to all the feats, skills, races, prestige classes, etc... but was unsure wheter this would violate the OGL. Plus, for now, I just want to get them finished.

Working on it!

We at this time are working on making DM Buddy more users freindly and also moving thing's around so that you can run with it easier keep your eyes on this area to find out when it well be updated if all goes well same time in the next 2 weeks

I have used .xls sheet that comes with it

Hello,
I had downloaded the DM buddy and the .xls character generator that comes with it.
I love the .xls sheet and use it all the time. But I have lost my orginal copy. Does anyone have it? As to the DM buddy, I tend to look at it as a general help. Where do things come from. Combines alot of different books into one area for comparison.

Thanks
Richard Keith
