DM Metagaming?

All of the above is true. But the key here is that the DM was not the sharpest tool in the shed, and that he was notorious for being an unfair DM who gloried in killing off his PCs. He wasn't arbitrating the combat, and my character, being a mage, was able to do illusion spells to make it look real.

He could have done any of what you all mentioned, but he wasn't intelligent enough to see that.

It was mainly me and the rest of the party letting him know that we weren't happy with his style of DMing.

bbjore; that is deliciously evil.. I may try something along those lines. I think one time or another I mentioned they "passed" a check, but normally I just confused them. As for the notes that's awesome. I try not to include those as it often makes that player seem evil but you seem to have flipped that around. I approve :P

Dan'L; I love it when your playing and you see through the DM's plans. Its nice to unravel something big and get the upper hand. And I always make sure if one of my friends DM's to supply him with fun little mysteries to feed the group while I play :D I just hint of course.

Piratecat; That's a good idea as well! With a good amount of guile that could really turn a party around and lead to some confusion.

DracoSuave; Agreed ;)

Ryujin; I'd say working on the fly like that is also great practice for the DM. Lets him stretch and evolve his abilities.

moxcamel; Well its when you seem most predictable you pull the switch card and reverse it. After I did this once I did it again, of course they all thought I was full of it. And then Ben was the saboteur; I've never seen them get knocked out cold that fast haha. Silly adventures, thinking they've "got" the DM all figured out.

Raunalyn; I find DM's in that rut of anti-player hood need to calm down sometimes... Or get even. For me one of my players (when I was still a green DM) used two scrolls of polymorph to I) change into a Balor, then II) a Balor with green eyes (so the timer reset to a minuscule change and therefore permanently). Instead of getting mad as he'd done this before I had Asmodeus summon him to serve him forever in hell. Then some games later I had Steven the Balor come and stir up some asswhoop ;P

Kingreaper; not with corn starch and red food colouring! Add in a few drama classes and Orcus wouldn't even know!

Thatwackyned, Ryujin, ffy; I'd have to agree, it would probably end in a little punishment. Or eternal damnation :D Or yes the complete shift of alignment and a warped view. Maybe as a DM I'd suggest while that happened X kobolds appeared attacking your friends... Only it was the Evil God empowering and tricking you to murder your friends.

Raunalyn; fair as well; there seems to be an abundance of DM's on power trips and it takes time to get a good one. I remember once an old DM of mine just told me when I went to subdue a child I "tripped" and crushed him to death thereby forcing a town to hang me. No roll, no reason, just for him to do and he said it was his right as DM to say how things went.
