I really like DMing. I also like playing but never really find others as willing to DM as I am. So what to do? Right now I am working on a long term plan involving my two sons. I plan on training them right so that by the age of 10 they can take the helm as DMs every now and then.

I DM most of the time. I have my first potential long-running games in about ten years starting in January some time, and it's got me excited. Most of my playing experience has been short-term one shots.

Personally, I prefer DMing, but I look forward to having a balance.

DM.

Notice that most of the people who work hard to craft new material for a game are the DMs. These are the same people who are usually most concerned with game balance, rules mechanics and product reviews.

It doesn't surprise me that most of the users on a forum like this are typically the DM of their group(s).

"I used to DM, but play most of the time now"

i game in two different groups, each with at least 3 people who want to run games, so DMing duties are always changing. so, i'll DM again eventually....

Now that's thinking ahead! How old are your kids now? I've got one going on seven this spring that I think I could get interested in a very simplified version of the game. He seems to be a natural math whiz too, so I think it'll work well.

I DM and have been for almost 20 years.
I play, and have for a little over 20 years.
I run one weekly game, and play in several others. I wouldn't give up either playing or DMing.
