DM Screen vs. PH

Evil DM

First Post
Hi folks,

I just received the DM Screen and looked through the tables.

There is written

Heal DC 10: Let a character use a healing surge.

But in the PH is clearly written that you allow a character to use his second wind without the defense boni.
Which is only a healing surge - yes.

But the difference is: If the character has allready use his second wind which is an encounter power he cannot be helped anymore.

So I think it makes more sense to use the DM Screen Variant.

I flipped through the PH Errata - sorry - update. But didn't find anything about this issue?

Any comments?

Cheers, Evil DM.

...Sigh. They did it again, didn't they? WotC really needs to learn that it's okay to have the teams working on different projects talking to each other. Hell, maybe even having their interns proofread stuff...

As for the mechanic... I don't like it. It makes it entirely too hard to kill players. It's already hard enough...

[No, I don't have a DM vs. Player mentality... but the DM has to have a little fun in combat for it to be realistic.]

Well I don't know if I can agree with your argument. I've only played the new edition twice.

But on the other hand I look at my 1st level party:

First, the cleric is able to heal a character via his healing word 5 squares away - to times per encounter.

Second, our paladin can use his lay on hands. Three times per encounter, but he has to be adjacent.

Third, a character can use his second wind to regain some hit points.

4th, if all these possibilities are spent a character can rely on a healing potion to regain some hit points....

5th and finaly, if everything given above is spent I think the combat has last very long. So, why does the battle goes on?
Good point: The characters are pretty close to win?
Bad point: The characters a pretty close to be wiped away?

So I think at this point it does not make any difference if the cleric is to be able to give a character a healing surge. Remind that he has to be adjacent.

Cheers, Evil DM.

Hmm, is your DM screen in German or English? It could turn out to be a problem translating....

[Not necessarily on your part. WotC has screwed up some translations before, IIRC.]

No no.
It is in english!

I do not care about german products because either you have to wait until they are translated and second....maybe they aren't! ;)

So on the DM Screen is clearly written:

Let a character use a healing surge Heal DC 10

Paladin can use lay on hands an number of times per day equal to his wis modifier, i guess that would be around 2-3 times an day, and once per round he could use it..

You can use this power a number of times per day equal to your Wisdom modifier (minimum 1), but only once per round.
