D&D (2024) DMG Chapter Preview: James Wyatt Talks Cosmology

Interesting tidbit here, and Wyatt isn't sure if he put thisnin the book or juat the idea in his head: the Shadowfell and Feywild are noy echoes of Material Prine worlds like the Forgettern Realma or Hreyhawk, but wxhoses of the shattered First World. So both Shadowfell and Feywild can cross between different Settings, because they reflect the unbroken world thst prexists the current D&D Multiverse.
Looks like it's just in his head. I don't see anything along those lines in the cosmology chapter. (It's not in the Lore Glossary entry on the First World either.)

It's a cool idea, though. One that I might adopt myself.

Interesting. Ash use to be one of the negative Quasi-Elemental Planes. So, what happened to Smoke?
The Quasi planes are gone, the positive and negative planes have 'moved' and aren't considered inner planes. Someone felt that ash was cooler than smoke, I guess, so ash was retained.

James Wyatt talks about Chapter 7 from the new DMG, talking about Cosmology.

Yeah, I'm not sure that is in the text anywhere: but as background knowledge of what Wyatt is thinking it makes a lot about the Shadowfell and Feywild make more sense.

I still miss some of the quasi-elemental planes. Lightning was very distinct and of course is the basis of an important energy type. Dust was interesting as it just attacked your solidity and wanted to (slowly) Thanos snap you. The problem was, not all of them were really distinct or worked in a metaphysical sense. Radiance and Vacuum were just slightly toned-down versions of Positive and Negative, for example. I do wish there was a way to make room for the interesting ones like Lightning and Dust in the current cosmology without having to bring them all back.

Some of them should be removed to fit them back in

I replaced Radiance with Color. Energized fire is not just light, it's light that's visible.
Mineral with METAL \m/. ATLA rules. Better Earth is Metal
Vacuum with Thunder \m/. Good compliment with Lightning.

that has not changed from 5e.

In the 2014 DMG they were border regions that were "sometimes called" the Plane of Ice/Ooze/Magma/Ash. None had their own independent section and all were described under the entries for the four main elemental planes. Their positions as planes of their own seems to have had serious doubt cast on them. And they were definitely not called "para-elemental."
