DMG II, it isn't all new stuff, and that's just fine!

Getting lost in fantasy maps
According to the DMGII preview this month, it appears that some of the DMG II isn't new material. Instead rather some has already appeared in other products.

The preview this month is on restricted spaces, however these rules have already appeared in the FR accessory Underdark, as I remember, almost exactly as they are presented in the preview.

As I said, this isn't a bad thing at all. It makes me wonder what else that has been published elsewhere by WotC will be brought into the DMG II. IMO, some of the environment rules that are appearing in the WotC environment books would have been nice to bring into this but I fully understand milking those ideas into full fledged books on their own.

But I appreciate that WotC is consolidating (some) optional rules from far flung accessories into a single new book.

and they appeared in the earlier editions too.

check out Sunless Citadel or Forge of Fury for other tidbits/hints for use in play. DM help items in the newer editions

They have rules for magical locations in the excerpts, where they mention Earth Nodes, Touchstones and Rune Circles, but say that the magical locations in this book are different from those ones...

Somehow I think they'll have an actual fountain of youth in that book.

That's fantastic news. I buy few D&D books, because few interest me. Compiling the best bits (like the outstanding Unearthed Arcana) is a good thing.

I hope they include the arial combat rules from the DL Campaign. I took a peek at my friend's copy, they're pretty spiffy.

I applaud your good taste in praising Unearthed Arcana, my favorite non-core book for D&D.

I also like, very much, that the DMGII is drawing together useful material from books I may never have bought.

You're kidding?! Well...it's the end of the world as we know it...and I feel fine.
