DMG II Statblock - How Is It

Love it. And just like the rest of my loved ones, there are some things that I wish were different, but I can live with the quirks. (HD & AC breakdown would be nice.)

It's excellent. I much prefer it above the old version, to the extent that I'll often convert old-style statblocks to new-style statblocks before I use the monster in question (plus, doing the conversion generally improves my understanding of the monster's abilities)

Love it. Don't care about the hit die type, though. Can't see how that affects anything in play. But I do miss the AC breakdown, so when I make up my own blocks for NPCs, I put the breakdown back in.

Love it. It's easier for me to find things in it. Yeah, the lack of HD and AC breakdown are a pain, but easily figured out.

It beats a swift kick in the goskies, that's for sure.

I think it is rather good, but takes a bit too much space.

But I am constantly irritated by the fact that the HD are not detailed, and I cannot understand why. It would not require any more space (as it already takes a full line) and you have to do it anyway to get the avareage hp.

It's an improvement, but it's not perfect. It takes up too much space.

Also, Wizards have produced far too many products that have failed to implement it correctly. The AC breakdown is required, IMO, and yet is still missed out far too often. Some books have missed out LA where it really should have been present, while others have even missed out the number of hit dice ("Scourge of the Howling Horde", I'm looking at you - I don't need to know the type, but I certainly do need to know how many there are)! Also, if Power Attack and/or Combat Expertise is already figured into the stats, that needs to be recorded somewhere, including the amount of adjustment applied - my attrocious luck with attack rolls virtually demands that I undo the change, so I need to know how much change has been applied.

Basically, Wizards of the Coast should be able to do this right by now - they've had long enough.

I've taken to converting my players' character sheets into stat blocks for my own purposes. I find it easy to read, and one page is a lot more efficient than four to six.
