I'm not saying that's a good thing or a bad thing, it's just a thing.

Argh. I really hate it when someone says stuff like this. They used it as excuse to screw up the wanna-be sequel to Deus Ex big time: 'We did away with all the elements that made the first part exciting and good, and made this feel like a bad console port even though the PC is one of the original systems, but that's not a good decision or bad decision, it's a design decision, and those are neither good nor bad. They are the ineffable will of the lord or something.'

IMO they should have kept the tradition up. It isn't really something that will keep them up all night ("It's for players?" "Yep" "Make it brown"), and it does help determine at a glance where to put the book in the big long shelf.

I probably have slept in a cave for the last year or so but I never heard of a DMG2...could someone explain to me the reason for a second DMG?

If I remember correctly, it's a book on gamemastering, both mechanical bits and general advice. Given there's only a few pure gamemastering books out there (ranging from 'Robin's Laws of Gaming' all the way up to the unfortunately expensive 'Game Mastering Secrets'), I'm always looking forward to seeing a new one.

Hate to split hairs with you Claus, but take a look at it in some really bright light. Its a very dark Green. Better yet take somthing black and put it next to the UA. You will then see the green. The same thing happens with deep navy blue. It can get so dark so as to be mistaken for black.

Aaron.

I'm inclined to agree with you here. I'm not sure I like the concept of having a DMG II. I stopped following the Monster Manual train after the second one and this makes me wonder when the Player's Handbook II is going to hit the stage. Giving something the DMG name is probably going to guarantee completists buy the book, but it doesn't really say much about what the book actually contains. And while I don't care so much about the color of the cover, it does send mixed messages to those of us already uncertain about the viability of another DMG.

And I believe that Robin Laws is one of the writers of the book.

Funny you should mention it, my copy was delivered from Amazon thi morning. I also cannot see WotC putting out a high quality book designed to running a better game. I sure it will be scattered with optional rules for obscure things and new lists of DCs for thousands of tasks, but I don't see them expanding much past that. We will see though, I would buy a book that I though targeting running a good game. The DMG does not do this, and I doubt the DMG II will either.

Actually there is already four Player's Handbook II: Complete Warrior / Divine / Arcane / Adventurer. As there is 3 Monster Manuals, it is only logical they create a second DMG (just a few months before the release of D&D 4ed of course :) ).

I think you probably mistake it with Arcana Unearthed (by Monte Cook), which indeed has a black cover.
