I think we've all had a "perfect" campaign idea that never happened, fell through, was too ambitious, or didn't suit any of the players but you. What are yours? With any luck, some idea will be better suited to another DM in another land, and will carry on your work where you left off, or at least be inspired.
My (notable) failed children are:
1) Skull & Bones campaign. We had characters, I had plot, and players decided against pirate campaign at last minute. Grr.
2) My pet campaign. I had a wonderful idea; a new locale, a plot twist sending Roman-esque characters to an Oriental-Adventures-style new land ruled by a xenophobic emperor who wished to fence off his kingdom and, with the aid of The Unspeakable One, send it to another plane so that it would be forever unblemished by the crude foreigners. I had all sorts of henchmen worked out that were complete characters, but still evil enough to be hated. The whole thing fell through due to lack of player interest and incompatable PC types.
