DnD on Microsoft Surface Update

Lots of potential there. Looks like a lot of fun. The only chunky bit seems to be the DM controll; merge in some DDI tools and it would be awesome.

WotC should be all over this...

Awesome, awesome stuff. Put ten guys and two years of dev money behind this and it would be simply incredible.

£10k for a developer unit from Microsoft.

Why would anyone do this? Microsoft itself certainly has other things in mind for Surface than to make it a D&D prop.
And wizards likely won't support it as it is much too expensive for the average D&D gamer to buy, so its a bad investment.

It looks cool, but from a economic standpoint its crap. Maybe in 10 years or so if it is a big success (imo unlikely).

Really? You really this this tech won't be ubiquitous in ten years?

This stuff will be cheap-as-chips in ten years. It will have replaced laptops and possibly LCDs. They will be printing this stuff out and sticking it on bus shelters - maybe not in ten for the bus shelters, give it 15.

I can see me getting something like this in 5-7 years and using it as a coffee table.

Lets just say that I am careful when it comes to technological hypes.

Pretty neat tech demo. It's a little more clear from this update that they are using 4E (action points seemed to indicate that). I just hope that if they move it from a tech-demo to a software solution that the DM maintains full control over everything to adjudicate weird scenarios / fiat etc.

Man, I'm gonna get a Surface table in my flying car, which I'll park on my roof so I have to take my jet pack to get to it. Good thing I have a robot butler, because that jet pack is heavy, and I don't like carrying it to the fusion refueling station myself.

Meh. If you don't have a Hover Board, you're not in the cool geek crowd anyway.
