I'm quite an optimistic kind of guy.
In my world, a pessimistic person may think D&D will change. And by this, I mean D&D evolving but not being a tabletop RPG anymore. Becoming purely miniatures, purely video game, whatever.
An optimistic person will think D&D will always have a place on the entertainment market, because RPGs (not designing RPGs, not writing supplements - these are different things) have a place in this world with dice and people and imagination around the table that no board game can provide. When compared to Hasbro's research showing more people played board games this year than video games, that's VERY encouraging for D&D.
But then, I'm an optimistic kind of guy.
