Do area attacks or blasts harm allies?

I must be blind, because I've been looking all over for this answer and can't find it.

In short, do area attacks (fireball, poison cloud, etc) harm your own allies? What about close attacks?

Thanks.

look at the target line in the power description.

If it says all creatures, it means all creatures. If it says all enemies, it means all enemies.

If the target say all creatures, yes. If it says all enemies, no.

One thing to notice tho: Even if it says 'all enemies in blast or burst', allies are still in the blast or burst.

If you have a lot of 'all enemies' powers, Co-ordinated Explosion could be the feat for you; Bards especially should be rocking this trick.

Similarly, there's a paragon tier feat whose name I've forgotten that basically applies a -5 modifier to area attack rolls against your allies .. for those whose favorite powers target "All creatures in burst", this should be their first paragon feat!

:D

My party are currently doing battle in a zone of intense Wild Magic, such that:

On a natural 20, :area:!! - all spells have an effect one square larger in each direction than expected, and target "all creatures".

On a natural 1, spells have a random location and effect, and target "all creatures".

The first time an At-Will spell hit a bad guy, and blew up to catch the friends adjacent to him, the party loved it.

On Saturday, the sorceress kept firing into melee combat, and rolled four 20's. Her allies are now describing the scorch marks on their armor and complaining that she hits them worse than the monsters do. :D
