D&D 3E/3.5 Do builds like Pun Pun show 3.5 is broken?

There are certain broken things in 3.5e, but those are accidental byproducts. Most character option in 3.5e are actually really bad, if anything; look at most of the feats in the PHB and tell me they're worth taking.

Considering comic book canon for their franchises, both Superman and Hulk are unbeatable.
In their cross-over canon (JLA/Avengers), Hulk beats Superman (Supe's doesn't reach prime, and has a very reduced level of power).

They haven't fought in a canon universe to date.

In canon, Batman has never defeated Superman, and says himself that the only reason (when they fought) that he wasn't instantly killed *even armed with Kryptonite* was because Supe's was fighting mind control.
The only other time they fought in a canon universe was when Supe's beat him into a coma.

Superman Prime does not need access to a yellow sun. [/sblock]

Superman prime can store the power of the sun, but its still finite.

And beings such as galactus could beat superman prime.

I love superman and the hulk, and avidly defend there intense almost infinite power, but they, are not broken

xD I do enjoy super hero chat though, so if you want to talk more PM me rather than derail the topic?

Just so this post gets back on topic a bit, I like the power attack feat from the PHB

Feats in the SRD that are actually worth taking (in an appropriate build), omitting useless prerequisites:

Augment Summoning, Combat Reflexes, Craft Magic Arms & Armor, Craft Staff, Craft Wondrous Item, Extend Spell, Improved Familiar, Improved Initiative, Improved Precise Shot, Improved Trip, Improved Two-Weapon Fighting, Leadership, Natural Spell, Power Attack, Precise Shot, Quicken Spell, Rapid Shot, Scribe Scroll, Spell Focus, Spring Attack, Two-Weapon Fighting, Weapon Finesse.

That's a total of 22 feats, out of a total of 110, or exactly 20%. Sad. Even if you add in prerequisites, you're only upping the total by 4.

Still, the other stuff like Negotiator and Toughness are options on the table. Not worthwhile options in an even halfway optimized game, but your game may not be one of those.

To quote a friend of mine, when confronted with the Tree of Knowledge - "I Power Attack the snake."

I think that the various mega-builds prove that D&D 3.5 can be broken. They show that it pretty much scales up to infinity.

But the caveat on all of this is whether the DM is going to cast Dispel BS on it. Any particular use/abuse of power, spell, class ability or item is and always will be subject to the one truly infinite power in the game: The DM's ability to just say "No".

True enough, although that does give off a whiff of Stormwind. I like to think of D&D rules material as a continuum that supports low-power, light-hearted dungeoncrawling fun AND magical rocket tag ascension stories. You CAN go all the way up to stupidly OP. It's an option, but your group doesn't have to take it.

'Broken' as it relates to rules in an rpg can only have meaning in games that are no more than the sum of the rules.

If common sense and good judgement are not expected components of a roleplaying game then they are all equally broken.

Do you think that such builds show that 3.5 is fundamentally broken?

Nah, it just shows where the system has broken spots- albeit one that was perfectly preventable- just like any other RPG system.
