Do conjured attackers provide cover and flanking to allies?

If you use a power with the conjuration keyword, like cleric daily 9 Astral Defenders, and it conjures something that occupies a square and can attack, does that thing count as an ally? For example, can you get flanking from it; does it provide cover from your enemies; can you pass through its square; does it get bonuses that you or your comrades grant to allies?

If you read a power description that specified that a conjured attacker "counts as an ally for the purposes of flanking and cover," would you see that as redundant? confusing? broken? helpful?

Unless the effect specifies that the conjuration can flank, it can not flank. Unless the effect specifies that the conjuration can take OAs, it can not take OAs. Unless the effect specifies that the conjuration occupies a square, it does not occupy a square.

What about an animal from the Bag of Tricks in the AV? Could they flank, make OA, and provide cover? I don't think the description specifically says anything about that, but i could be wrong.
