D&D 5E Do monsters benefit from a long rest like adventurers?

Apologies if this is a silly or obvious question but. Well, do they?
My pcs locked an owlbear in a tower as they barely escaped with their lives. After a long rest they went back.
I ruled it did...what say you?

I would agree that unless otherwise stated, all creatures benefit from the appropriate amount of sleep for their species.

As with so many things on the DM side of the screen, ask yourself: does it make sense?

- was the tower relatively warm and dry? Was the owlbear able to curlup/stretch out and get comfortable? Then, yep, a long rest and full health
- now, if that tower had 3-5ft of water in it and the owlbear could not lay down or risk drowning or some other such major inconvenience, then nope, no long rest

Only if the DM says it is. Rulings, not rules, right?! :)

And determine when the outcome is uncertain with a chance of failure, when the outcome is uncertain with a chance of failure, when the outcome is uncertain with a chance of failure, when the outcome is uncertain with a chance of failure, when the outcome is uncertain with a chance of failure…sorry, did I say that twice…?
