Do prestige classes curb creativity?

So how does that curb your creativity? Whether or not that undesirable prestige class exists, you end up making a straight wizard. Your creative options are less now because...?

because the fkluff of the class fit perfectly with what I was doing and it gave some direction and interesting abilities that further reinfoced the character and were he is going. Sure, I can doa straight wizard and play it that way but the mechancis won't support it and it just doesn't feel right.

That being said, I'm positive I'll reach a fitting compromise with my DM. The character will work, we'll have fun, and everything will end in roses. At the time the thread started I was feeling a bit frustrated and limited so I started the thread.

Not sure what you're talking about in your example either. So you had a half-elf ranger. So what?

Were you on the boards back in 3.0?? The ranger and the half elf were ranted against as being worthless at least once a month. So many people jumped on the band wagon hating the race and class. But when played they workled at fine, that was the point. Manyt times people seem to think something will not work out that well becasue they look at the numbers and make an asusmption, but when played in a real campaign they are not nearlky as bad as people think.

The ranger was pretty bland,, but it could pull its weight.

The half-elf is a pretty lousy race, but a race just doesn't make nearly as big an impact as folks get worked up about.

So it's not the prestige class that was curbing your creativity in this instance, as much as it is the wizard core class. The prestige class came close to being perfect but not quite. And it takes the blame for failing you.
