Hmm. I generally count the squares then multiply by 5 and call off the distance in feet. (except for distances that are multiples of 30', in which case I measure it with pens or pencils (standard vis a vis mat pens are about 6" long) and call it out in feet). Where does that put me?

Though we DID have the common, semi-joke that when the party was moving it was ALWAYS 22 1/2 feet apart (just for safety) so that no two people could be caught in the 20 foot radius of a fireball...

Gosh... I bet they would have been surprised when they found out that a 20' radius means a 40' diameter...

We use hexes :D

Seriously once in a while someone will say they move 3 hexes/squares to so-and-so but most often it's in feet or meters (depending on wether we're playing fantasy por sci-fi)

When playing the D&D Miniatures game, I use square.

Otherwise, I use feet and no grid for my RPG sessions. :)

Cheers!

Looks like, so far and with an admittedly small random sampling of the boards, that of those who use grids/mins/counters at all, about two thirds have or do use squares to some degree. That sound right?

When you decided to post this, were you thinking as -Hyp the clever comeback king or -Hyp the moderator..? :p

While I suspect you're kidding, I'll treat it as a serious question for future reference.

If I'm acting in a Moderatorial capacity, I'll put (Moderator) at the end of the sig... see below :)

Squares are OK. It's just an unit of range and movement.

But feet? I pictures severed feet strewn all across the room, one every 30 centimeters or so. No way I'll use feet. And beside, why is it feet and not foots ?
