I am a little of both, honestly (but voted yes, there was no middle option).

In the past (I haven't been a PC much as of late), I have been known to be a tad disruptive (jokes in inappropriate places, usually) but I'm cutting down on it. I do move things forward when needed and if it's what my character would do, of course. I try to make it fun for the other players, easy on the DM but interesting for the DM at the same time. I also try to play like I would like my players to do for me. It doesn't always work, but I feel the effort is worth it.

Well presently i'm NOT a good player, to my great surprise. I dm a lot, and the only game in which I play is with 2 of my younger brother, a friend of them, and my gf. The DM is one of my brothers, and he have never dmed before. I could have been a lot more helpful to him, but I dont know, hes not that good yet, and when I play i dont and i think I cant give him any good advices, because I dont think its my role as a player. Also, none of the other players are very good to improvise, so I tend to get to much of the spotlight, because, well, nobody step unto it if i dont. Yeah, its hard to play with younger players some times...

Anyway, after talking to my girlfriend, I've only discover my problems as a player, and i will of course try to change my attitude, next time we play. However I dont think will play for a long time, because of the numerous problems (i may be bad but im still not the only one :D). When I dm, things tend to work better.

Also, in some other small games i played in (with friends, and I had not those same problems :) ) I tend to try to much to make a powerful player. You know, being the most effective rogue, trying to deal as much damage as possible, all this powergaming stuff. even if I try to roleplay him as best as i can, honest!!! :)

And to add to all of this, there still more. I am the one who taught all my friends to play the game, and we have some great games most of the time. The problem is, almost nobody have read the Player Handbook!! So when another of my friends is the dm, I have to be the one who tells the other players that they cant do somethings, because "on page 16*, it says that you cant move out this treatened area and try to use your bow etc etc" I dont really have a choice, since I am the only one who knows pretty much all the rule books, but still, I guess it can be irritating to all the others, sometimes.

Anyway, i dont think i am THAT bad, as beyond any hope, and will definately try to be better when (which is quite rare) i play.

I voted no. I am the third person to do so. I voted in a way that was largely different than others. Therefore I am cool. :D

I think that I'm a pretty good player for many of the same reasons mentioned above:
-- I help keep the action moving forward
-- I don't waste time arguing or debating rules with the DM...if we disagree, I explain my POV then drop the matter until after the session is over
-- I place great emphasis on developing my PC's personalities, then stay true to the character despite the occasional desire to do otherwise
-- I leave player knowledge out of my game actions, and let the PC's experiences shape his/her knowledge
-- And most importantly I appreciate that D&D is a game...it's meant to be fun for everyone present, and being a disruptive or session dominating jerk is counterproductive to that goal

Nope, I suck as a player. To many years behind the screen with very few chances to get in front. I'm out of practice, and I get bored with character ideas fairly often and try to chop and change if given the chance.

I voted yes because;
1) I participate in the game sessions
2) I put story develpment ahead of character development
3) I know the rules
4) I live up to commitments in and around the game
5) I participate in the game outside the sessions
6) I don't argue with rulings DURING the game.
7) I love this hobby.
8) and a little less important, I'm creative.

I'm a bit in the middle, myself. I try perhaps too hard to stay in character, and this can lead to DM frustration (like my character who desided to quit adventuring to revel in his wealth, and was replaced by a not-so-un-evil friend) -- but my next character will be a bit better about this :D

good player?

I had to say no. I am an inteligent/creative player so I'm good from those standpoints, It's just that I have been running the game as a DM for so long that I have forgotten how to "play" and wind up chalanging the DM on stuff that I know he is doing wrong
(rules he is misunderstanding etc.) this leads to conflict, but I can't just sit by and watch the party get wheeled by a bad/inexpirenced DM. It's just "not in me" anymore.

I'm a better DM than a player for the same reasons. I should keep my mouth shut on picky rules details, but I often don't. Worse, when I get nervous, I have the very bad tendency to ruleslawyer to my own advantage. Thank goodness, the other players know when to throw dice at me. :D

I do some things right, though. I take notes for the DM during combat, I try to keep the game moving forwards, I almost always have fun. That's the important thing!
