D&D 5E Do you ever create a PC off a mini?

Not a mini, no. But often I find a piece of art that moves me and base my character on the art. Works super well for PbP when one wants an image of their character.

This one - 4e rogue with all his powers re-flavoured to use the items he is festooned with. Ah how I miss 4e.

I've considered doing this as a GM.

If the players are up for it, I put a bunch of interesting minis in a hat. Each player reaches in blindly and pulls three minis. They each pick their favorite from their three choices and then make a character built around the mini.

Still haven't done it. But I'll do it some day.

I've never done that, but I've certainly done the reverse...pouring over and agonizing about the minis on the Reaper site trying to find the perfect mini to represent my character.

You can't reflavor in 5E? Serious question--I haven't tried it yet, so I'd like to know what the problems with it are, if any.

For rogues there is nothing to reflavour.

My 4e one had dazing strike with his rolling pin, blinding barrage with hot chilli oil from his wok, his minor action attack was yet another knife, he loaned out sneak attack to his sous chefs etc

Rogues are grand in 5e but not in this way. This character would be a battlemaster fighter in 5e, probably MC rogue though.
