Do you have any Gliding rules?

I'm fairly sure that there are no rules for gliding in the core rules. Does anyone have any rules for gliding? If not we'll have to make some.... :)

Yup, there are none. Important as I have a custom familiar flying squirrel in one campaign. I've worked up stats on how much altitude they lose per foot traveled.... but that's about it. I imagine you'll have to make 'em up!

I was thinking whether you would have a new movement type, or a new flight class.

I think the latter would be good with an amount in feet that you drop (with all having a set speed?) and a class for turning purposes.

It's easier with having a set speed. Different gliders will have different maneuverability.

Now, of course, gliders can and do sacrifice altitude for speed sometimes, fall faster to move forward faster. You could impliment some sort of rule along that line.

IE speed 40 at 1/4 foot loss per foot traveled (my current flying squirrel, pretty close to real life there. A little better and rounded off, but hey)

speed 60 at 1/2 foot loss per foot traveled.

Speed 80 at 1 foot loss per foot traveled.

And simply say that it can't go faster than that. IF you want it to go that fast.

I'm not sure I want set speads now, gliding would come up so rarely a whole new movement type is to much, I'd like to have the two speeds simply float and give the manuverability in the description.

Why not just use Fly (poor, but cannot ascend)?

Because poor suggests poor maneuverability. Some gliders can have excellent maneuverability. But always down....

But yea, that's what I did, used flight, set a maneuverability, gave a flight speed and an amount of altitude lost per foot traveled.

Rare? Not if one's playing a Yazirian!
