D&D 5E Do you impose space restrictions on weapons?

Yes. Although kn a 1 vs 1 sitiation in a very narrow hallway I really don't want to be the one with the shorter pointy stick.
So I would let the great sword wielder have it use as an improvised piercing weapon (maybe a spear) and allow for an opportunity attack against the dagger wielder trying to get close.

I had a kobold dungeon where the halls were only 3ft wide and 5ft high. Anyone not a small character had disadvantage in the halls. I did have the rooms more normal. The couple encounters in the hall were a bit harder than they thought, but the low HP of the monsters still were basically 1-hit kills.

Yup. Especially when dealing with an airship/swashbuckling campaign. When you're clambering up the rigging, chasing a shifter assassin, in the wind and rain - suddenly those one-handers and light weapons become very appealing - what with the clinging on for dear life.

That is the main sort of restriction I'd impose, I think. Cramped spaces...idk, I'd have to feel it out in play. In all my years of DnDing, it's never come up. Not when I DM, nor when I play.

Probably...I'd only mess with the bigger weapons, and only when it's really tight. Shoulder to shoulder? Nah, i'm not getting that nitty gritty. I do find that players tend to make sensible decisions in times like those anyway, though.

The fighter in my game wields a pike as his main weapon. As an actual-factual pike is a weapon for massed infantry in the open field and not really suited for single combat or adventuring, I've handwaved the "pike" on the PHB weapon table as a heavy-duty but still fairly short spear. So under normal circumstances he can fight with it indoors and, y'know, turn around in hallways. In especially tight quarters, though, disadvantage may apply as normal. (But it being a thrusting weapon he needs less clearance than he would to swing a greatsword, so I think I'd be less likely to rule that attacking with it was impossible. This hasn't come up in play.)
