I keep resonable track of dates - the monsoon season just ended, and the priest of peace died the day before the holiest day on the calandar for his god. For the last 5 adventures outdoor descriptions have come complete with descriptions of mud, rainfall and occasional storms - I had a daily rain table for just this season. They even got to witness a typhoon turn away from the island they were on (the god of storms keeping his promise to the people of the green isles)

The PCs took a week off before the season started so they could make and distibute gifts during the annual gift giving holiday. Normally I give them a heads up on upcoming holidays and changes. The players respond to the calender, but rarely plan very far ahead.

Its homebrew - with 11 months of 30 days, and 1 month with a random end each year (marked by the apperance of a new constilation and the end of the monsoon season. )
the months of the calendar were named elsewhere, and reflect a climate with more than 2 seasons (wet and dry).

The last world had 9 months - 42 days each based soley on he lunar cycle - it was very handy in terms of knowing the phase of the moon for night events, it also had 9 specific holidays that were well integrated with the dominant religious system.

Just out of curiosity, those of you who use a game calandar: Do you use a made up one or do you base it on an actual 12 month/365 day year?

Mine is completely fabricated. It requires a little conversion work when looking at magic item creation times, but nothing too bad.

I use the real world calendar, but I also use the real world map with my fantasy world imposed on it. Eventually, I'll get around to giving the months names that fit into my homebrew better.
