My theory?

That's handily voted for by not participating in the poll.

Yes and no, not voting would be in tune with the sentiment I expressed but it has no effect on the poll nor is anyone lookin at the poll results in anyway affected by opinions that might be repersented by absence.

To give weight to the non polling opinion some measure of those that frequent the forum but have not voted would be required and this number incorporated in the polling result.

Personally, I like the following combos (in order of most-liked to least-liked):

  • Heroic > Legendary > Mythic. This one sounds more traditional fantasy/mythological in nature. I like that, and since D&D is trying to go back to its roots, it's nota half bad idea, either.
  • Heroic > Epic > Mythic. The ending in "ic" makes this combo flow smoothly, plus the words are all fairly short and rather descriptive and self-explanitory in their own right.
  • Exalted > Epic > Paragon. This one sounds quite erudite and technical, and makes 4e sounds quite professional. Personally, I think WotC has Epic and Paragon mixed up - Epic is something beyond normal, Paragon is the perfection of that normality. YMMV, of course.

  • If you want to go back to D&D root:

Basic -> Expert -> Master -> Immortal.

Isn't that WotC's point? Paragon is the perfection of normality, Epic is leaving the constrains of normality behind. Therefore Epic is better than Paragon.

"Legendary" sounds about right.

Given that in 3.x 11th-level was the bottom limit for being susceptible to the 'legend lore' spell, I'd prefer the term be used in favor of 'Paragon'.

Heroes become Legends before they find their Epic destiny.
