I don't mind rolling fistfuls (fistsful?) of d6es at all. I don't really mind doing it with d8s either, except d8s generally aren't sold in bricks of 12 or 36 so you have to collect a bunch of mismatched dice from all over the place. But d4s behave very differently to those. They don't really roll – you have to toss them so they spin around in the air and then land. That's why I don't like rolling large numbers of d4s.

There are a few variations of producing a D4 without the tetrahedron:

I also seem to remember seeing octohedrons with 1-4 printed on them twice.

5. Finally, we can all agree that the d4 sucks. It only exists to wait for you, unaware, on the floor like a caltrop (or lego brick) so that you can step on it with your bare feet. The d4 is the DJ Khaled of dice.

When the very first high-impact dice came out, I stepped on a new D4 in the dark once. Had a scar on the arch of my foot for years.

Sure, but if I buy a typical 7-die set, it's going to come with a tetrahedron, not one of those other things. So I'd have to get them separately, and they generally wouldn't match the other sets I'm using. It would have been much better to just have the breath weapon deal 10 or 11 d6 in the first place.

Well, I'm not disagreeing, but just noting you can just buy a whole set of these exotic D4s. Or at least you used to be able to. I was about at the point of thinking about it just from rolling 4D4 for something before I shifted over to dice rollers.

Sets? You push the conformism to use matching dice instead of lovely mixing several sets? You're missing the pleasure of rolling the fireball damage and get the maximum score of two sixes, two groups of six pips, one heart, a chinese character resembling a guy, a star and a reindeer (and turning to check the opposite side of the reindeer to be sure it's a 1, only to find that it's a christmas wreath).

Every time I have to use random die rollers for play online, I sigh, because I know I'm going to get the weirdest results, lol.

Case in point, here a quick roll of 10d6 courtesy of my dice bot on Discord:

1 1 2 6 5 6 2 6 1 3

So much for that 35 average roll!

Sometimes the RNG isn't good on those, but--sometimes dice produce pretty weird results too. ITs just a thing.
