Do you not play WOW? Forked Thread: Wil Wheaton plays and reviews 4th.

As for me, I don't confuse WoW with anything remotely approaching a roleplaying experience.

Definetly not "roleplaying", as no CRPG is. I have had grinding D&D games that felt like WoW, but in general it's a different experience.

Like at least one other poster, I was into it for a while but got bored when my character got to level 50 or so, and I woke up to the fact that it would continue to be a kill-and-loot grind indefinitely. I do still play WoW occasionally, and, man, when I'm in the mood for it, it is tons of mindless fun.

I find WoW to be a nice time-waster in between other things. If a new video game won't be out for a month, WoW is there. If the D&D game is postponed for XMas, WoW is there. It's like the magical Crutch of Entertainment.

Not to take away from the situations you quote, but it's the same logic that says D&D causes suicide. If they weren't playing WoW, maybe they'd be alcoholics or gamblers.

I don't disagree with you. I don't think WoW should blamed for these peoples problems. Even though my prior post may have come across that way. WoW is just a new avenue for geeks who want to self destruct. If it wasn't this it would be drugs, booze or Poker Machines.

I'm a raider in WoW despite playing in a OWoD and 4E game. It's not for everyone, but neither are RPG's.

I have cut down from a 4-5 hour 4-5 day a week raid schedule to a 3 day, 3 hours a day raid schedule per request from my g/f however.

If you have an obsessive personality, addictive personality, or like to hide from your problems I can see MMO's having a negative impact on your life. But, so can drugs, booze, or gambling.

I play a lot of different video games but I have found that I really dislike MMO games. RPGs or otherwise. What really amazes me is people who consider it a valid form of socializing - they count their WoW friends, whom they have never met in person, as close intimates. That is something that is just alien to me.

I play Wow and have LOTS of fun.

That said, it's the CRPG that less inspires me. Weak storyline and cliché plots all the time.

Or even like a good solo video game (like Fallout 3) ever did.

"good" and "fallout 3" will never be in the same sentence for me.

fallout 1 and 2, now, that were real good games.

I mean, given the choice would you rather have real sex or phone sex?

I'll take the real sex every time.

Come to think of it (no pun intended), if I couldn't have the real sex I'd rather just play (...) Fallout 3

FO3 is fake and cheap sex compared to 1 and 2. It does not deserve the name. It's just Morrowind / Oblivion with guns.

Man, I really want to disagree with you.

Unfortunately, you're right. ;)

I didn't believed until I tried... create a high charismatic diplomat-like guy, run away from every random encounter, talk to the right npcs and finished the game with ZERO kills.

And then I made this guy and killed everybody in my way and still finished the game. I meant: every single piece of living people I found were killed and the game was still finished with a story.

That Bethesda game is a joke...
