Do you prefer D20 or To Hit and Save Tables

HA ha ha ha ha! NO. Tables were terrible.

I miss being 12, and I feel nostalgia for all the silly things I did (and accepted) back when I was 12, but tables as such? No. Good riddance.

Did AD&D1E not use THAC0? If it did, I don't think there's a substantial difference. There isn't a meaningful difference between THAC0 - 1d20 compared to AC and 1d20 + attack bonus compared to AC, except that 1d20 + attack bonus is more intuitive.

UPDATE: After looking through OSRIC, it appears that AD&D1E does use THAC0, so I don't think there's much of a difference between the AD&D system and the D&D3.x system, other than the 3.x system is more intuitive and takes up less space in the book.
1E didn't use THAC0. It was something introduced in the Dragonlance modules in the mid-80s IIRC, and then incorporated into 2E.

3E opposition seems to be down to scooping the dregs from the bottom of the barrel when looking for things to prefer over d20 :\

Pretty funny, actually. What's still left?

I've got your next thread tx7012: It was good that Gandalf couldn't swing Glamdring in 1E! Or perhaps a defense for Gygax's 'prohibition' of modifying the rules, maybe?

Tables? Friggin' tables? Or just a simple roll with a target number? I think d20 is far easier and elegant. And just don't tell the AC, done. And if you really want mystery, make all rolls behind the screen.

D20 is far preferable for RPGs IMO. Tables may be appropriate in wargames which have non-linear, or non-numeric effects, but deleting tables from D&D has been one of the most impoartant evolutions in the game.

I'd rather do: roll dice, add modifiers, "I hit AC 15"

than

roll dice, add modifiers, *consult table*, "I hit AC 15"

I prefer d20 to anything with a resolution table, thanks. Streamlined task resolution was the primary reason d20 brought me back to D&D after I had abandoned the old, hoary system in the early '90s.

Dammit. Now I failed my save vs. Stealth Edition War. My apologies.
