Do you remember this spell?

I did this via web research, but Player's Guide to Faerun, page 111.
(For Skull Watch).

EDIT: or did you mean the Cyric spell?

Though I do agree that a druid spell that allowed you to scry via an animal skull existed, as someone mentioned upthread.

I could look into that further if you'd like.

I don't think you're crazy, I'm remembering the same thing you are....and that's part of why I'm eager to help...to remember. :)

No worries. I'm going to check my Complete Wizard's Handbook when I get home. My guess is it showed up there or in the Tome of Magic (which I no longer have) in 2E, which is why I remember it.

I may have to end up rolling my own anyway. I'll post my creation for everyone's edification once I have.

It reminds me of a 2e necromancer spell that was part of a Dragon article - one of the few I allowed to be used in my 2e game (since necromancer, imho, had so few options). The same article had spells like 'bonesteel' and something to blow up undead...

Now that would be a mean trick to play.

Have a skull with a 5000gp diamond in each eye. As soon as the character tries to get the diamonds have a series of magic mouths go off to send an alarm throughout the entire dungeon.

As well as a Glyph of Warding (Damage type) or Fire/Ice Trap
I guess that would be adding injury to insult. :)

If any of the already mentioned spells don't fit exactly, you might want to look in 2 books from 2E. One had Volo in the title I think and the other was a spell collection from Pages from the Mages of user written spells. I can't dregde up the exact name for either product form the corners of my mind but I think I still have both books in storage.

I don't know the spell, but a quick search through the Dragon Magazine archive shows that there is a 5th level spell in the Forgotten Realms Adventures hardback called Improved Skull Watch.

Skull Watch (3rd level spell) and Improved Skull Watch (5th level spell) are both in the 2E Forgotten Realms Adventures. That book also has a similar long range alarm type spell Watchware which is updated to 3E in Unaproachable East. The complete Wizards' Handbook has the spell Hovering Skull which allows seeing through a created hovering skull eyes within a range of 30 ft.

Skull Watch has been converted to 3E in Player's Guide to Faerun. I found a 3E version online here. Hovering skull has been converted by fans here and here
