Do you see anyone taking this class?

Would someone actually take this class?

Okay, please don't move this to one of the rules forums. I'm not really asking about D&D rules, or making special house rules. I'm currently designing a classless, level-less system that runs similar to DnD. This is just a pet project, I'm not looking to do business research on ENWorld, just a look at simple play balancing.

So, just answer me this. Do you think a character would actually take this class over something like fighter?

Hit Dice: d6
Lvl...BAB
1......+2
2......+4
3......+6
etc, etc.

So, no bonus feats, no skill points, no saving throws. Do you think someone would actually sacrifice that much just for double BAB?

Sure.

A fighter who's tapped out his chosen "style" by 8th or 10th level could take a few levels of that.

And it would be sick. Three levels for 2 more attacks (+6/+1). That's as good as a feat right there.

It's not something you would take by itself or early on but it's pretty broken as a high-level multiclass, I think.

All the way to 20, assuming you get at least slow saving throw progression. Without that, only a handful of levels.

...although it would feel kind of unnecessary. A straight fighter-type hits most everything of appropriate CR anyway. I would probably end up investing half my BAB in Power Attack almost all the time... Combined with the magic items you can stack up at later levels, it's potent enough.

And I'm definitely not saying "I'd take this class all the time." But I'd try it out :)

Except that a +6 BAB almost never gets you two more attacks. Only does if your BAB starts off a multiple of 5.

And, note that you get at most 4 attacks no matter how high your BAB is (usually only relevant for very high hit die creatures and such, since epic characters don't get BAB after level 20, but nonetheless true).

Rogues, clerics, bards, druids, all they need is one level of this and they get 4 attacks at 20th level. I think it would be heavily abused like that.

Right... Only if you were 5th or 10th level before.

Anyway, I'd definitely take a couple levels in this class for many character types; it's just too good to pass up.

Oh, and the way you've stated it, I don't see any weapon proficiencies being thrown in either. That would mean you'd need to blow a bunch of feats to single-class in this and not lose the first +4 to nonproficiency penalties.

Okay, what i am really looking at is breaking down the D20 system to remove classes and levels. Instead, most abilities would be reduced down to skills.

So HP's, BAB, Saving Throws, all would be fuelled by ranks like skills. (Saving Throws would act as cross class). Then, each rank would costs a certain amount of experience. 25 Xp for a +1 in a skill, another 50 Xp for a +2, etc.

Then, feats would also be worth Xp. 100 Xp for Power Attack, 150 Xp for Cleave, etc.

The rules I'm working on are more complex, but that's the basics of it. What I was looking at was the ability for abuse if someone put all of their experience into BAB and nothing else.

A coherent system can be made this way, it was for Asheron's Call. What I'm trying to see is if it can still be close enough for DnD for it to be considered a variant, like the VP/WP system, instead of a whole new game.

If it's for an extended campaign, I don't think I'd bother. At high levels, attack bonus is rarely a problem. Saves, hit points, special powers (flight, teleport, see invisibility, etc) and general durability are much more important. For a one-shot or an abbreviated campaign, there might be balance problems.
