yep, I still but metal when i find them at good prices.

too bad reaper has been pricing themselves out of what i think is acceptable for minis.

They are dangerously near having a "Our fans will pay it" attitude that had killed many a shop that carried gouge workshop minis.

Not trying to justify the price increases but.. you do know that their material supplies have gone up substantially right? I work at a factory that makes gaskets and our purchase price on steel gaskets has gone up massively, beyond single digit inflation. Should reaper just eat that cost and go out of business so people can say that they did the right thing?

Thier prices over the last 4 years have risen a tad bit more than would account for that.

Plus they have even said they needed larger profits because they are a larger company.

It is also kinda co-inka-dinky that thier prices jumped as they moved.

When the D&D minis came out, I started buying them and my metal mini purchasing went way down. But now that I've ammassed a decent collection of various minis, I've started buying metal ones again to fill in the gaps. I didn't have time to paint up everything I needed, but now that I have the basics covered, I'm enjoying painting up the special figs.

So I'm glad that both varieties (pre-painted plastic and unpainted metal) exist and I buy both types.

Random Madness

I can't bring myself to buy those damnable randomized packs of plastics. I'll only buy mine from those stores good/smart enough to open up scads of packs and sell the figures individually (and trade people for the rares). I think it may be slightly more per figure on paper, but at least I'm not stuck with figures I'll never use because I have metals already, don't see the point of owning, or are just so terrible-looking that I would never consider displaying them in public. When you factor that in, I think it works out about the same. And besides I like to support my FLGS for such enterprising practises too.

I may buy some Star Wars packs at the beginning though (until I think the repeat-factor is likely to get bad), just because I'm a SW fanatic and will have to try and get a complete set for my collection ... plus the packaging for display. (Lucas has me by the throat I'm sorry to say.) But I tend to consider that the exception....

While I rarely use minis, the only ones I pick up are, of course, metal.

I mean, when I'm buying a mini, it's to paint the thing. :)

Plastics. I love them. The random factor doesn't bother me, because I don't look for anything specific. Just having a variety works for me. I don't have any problem, whatsoever, with using a wolf mini instead of a "blink dog" mini to represent a blink dog. Just give me something that looks alright, is painted, and I can sort of abuse a little.

God, no - why would I want to? ;)

First of all, I have never been a fan of painting minis. Second, I've never been a fan of the costs of individual metal minis. Finally, I've never been a fan of trying to keep those delicate little things intact.

I'm not just the type of person who breaks metal minis - I'm the type of person who breaks PLASTIC minis! (In my WotC Minis collection, I've already had the sword-arms on both Vadania and a scimitar-wielding skeleton break off.)

Ayup.

The idea of relying on the lottery to know whether I am going to have the right mini for the evening repulses me.

The idea of returning to the days of MtG, buying pack after pack looking for that one card, doubly so.
And that sums up my feelings as well.
